Rep. Tim Ryan, D-Ohio, had a brush with the law during the August recess.

Ryan, 39, was arrested Aug. 25 for public intoxication while attending a staffer’s wedding in Lexington, Va. He was released on his own recognizance and pleaded not guilty at a later date. The Washington Post first reported the news.

“Congressman Ryan made clear at the time of the citation and ever since that he was not intoxicated, and we’re pleased that the court agreed,” Press Secretary Pat Lowry said in an email to HOH. “Congressman Ryan was found not guilty and the case was dismissed.”

On Tuesday, a Rockbridge County, Va., court dismissed the misdemeanor case at a hearing at which Ryan was not present because the House was in session, the Post reported.

Ryan at one point was mulling a challenge to Republican Ohio Gov. John R. Kasich in 2014. On Sept. 5, however, just 10 days after the incident, two sources told CQ Roll Call that Ryan did not want to run statewide.
