“An Officer and an Auction” is a joint party being thrown by the GI Film Festival and Sip With Socialites. Most importantly, it will feature a whiskey tasting by Copper Fox Distillery. The date auction will be held from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m., with people bidding on military bachelors. Check out the updated list on the festival’s Facebook page.

According to a release, Elrod is not only handsome, he also served in the U.S. Air Force as an air traffic controller from 1994 to 2000, and was a military kid born in Germany who followed his F-16 pilot father around the world.

HOH gets the sense that this is a strictly hetero auction, but we’re double checking if our gay and lesbian service members will be represented, because everyone should have the opportunity to buy a dinner date for charity.

The actual dates are being donated by restaurants around the city, including Jose Andres’ Think Food Group. The event will be held at the Embassy of Austria — insert wry joke here. Shenanigans begin at 7 p.m.

UPDATE on the hetero/gay question:

“The gay community is certainly welcome to attend this event,” said Katelyn Gimbel, the GI Film Festival’s spokeswoman. “All of our bachelors are honorable gentlemen and both women and men would likely enjoy a conversation with them over dinner.”
