Union Market’s Pre-Super Bowl Blitz

A number of Union Market vendors hope to take a bite out of Super Bowl party planning by serving up a slew of DIY entertaining tips Jan. 27.

In addition to hosting a live broadcast of dining maven Nycci Nellis’ weekly “Foodie and the Beast” radio show, Union Market patrons who pop in from 11 a.m to 3 p.m. will be able to learn Super Bowl table arranging from Salt & Sundry owner Amanda McClements and get burger and hot dog tips from Harvey’s Market, as well as game day drink-making ideas from Buffalo & Bergen founder and award-winning mixologist Gina Chersevani.

But HOH is most excited about the “Cheese Bowl” being staged by Righteous Cheese.

Fromager Carolyn Stromberg has prepared a Maryland vs. California beer-and-cheese pairing representing the upcoming Baltimore Ravens-San Francisco 49ers showdown. Beginning Jan. 27, and running through the following weekend, Stromberg will offer patrons a choice between Maryland’s Stillwater Cellar Door beer from Stillwater Artisanal paired with Monocacy Ash from Cherry Glen Goat Cheese Co. and California’s Stone Smoked Porter from Stone Brewing Co. partnered with Vella Dry Jack from Vella Cheese Co.

Each pairing will sell for $7 per portion, and Stromberg will keep tabs on the orders until Super Bowl Sunday.

She will then announce the results of her popularity poll (based on total sales), ahead of momentous kickoff Feb. 3.

Game on, cheese lovers.
