Bob Dold Staffing Up for Rematch #IL10
Former Rep. Robert Dold, the Illinois Republican ousted after one term in 2012, is in the final stages of planning for a rematch in the 10th District.
Multiple sources confirm to CQ Roll Call that Dold has started to interview campaign staff and is close to officially jumping into the race.
In a brief phone interview, Dold cautioned he is still weighing the decision with his family. But he confirmed he will likely make a decision about the race “within the next several days.”
Dold lost to now-Rep. Brad Schneider, D-Ill., by about 1 point last cycle. The 10th District leans Democratic, and President Barack Obama won it with 57 percent last year.
Since then, he’s topped the House GOP’s list of candidates that it would like to see run again. (Read Roll Call contributing writer Stu Rothenberg’s ranking of this cycle’s top 10 House rematches.) The National Republican Congressional Committee has recruited him to run again in the district north of Chicago.
“No one works harder for his constituents than Bob Dold,” NRCC spokeswoman Katie Prill said. “The NRCC is hopeful Mr. Dold will make a decision in the coming days to run for his seat again in 2014 because Illinois families deserve his independent voice back in the 10th.”
Dold’s campaign account remains open with the Federal Election Commission from the 2012 cycle, although he did not raise any funds in the first quarter of 2013.
A pest control business owner, Dold came to Congress after the 2010 elections. The next year, Illinois Democrats redrew his district during the decennial redistricting process, making it more favorable to the party.
