Hill Experience Abounds in Recent K Street Moves | Hill Climber

The value of Capitol Hill experience keeps showing up in recent moves around K Street, as former aides to members of Congress head on to big jobs in the influence industry.

McCormick’s New Gig

Ryan McCormick, a former staff director for the Senate Finance Fiscal Responsibility and Economic Growth Subcommittee under subcommittee Chairman Bill Nelson, D-Fla., has joined The Real Estate Roundtable as vice president and counsel. Over nearly two decades on Capitol Hill, McCormick worked on fiscal matters for former Sens. Joseph I. Lieberman, I-Conn., and John Kerry, D-Mass. In his early years on the Hill, he learned at the knee of the late Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan, D-N.Y., as a tax research assistant on the Finance Committee staff, according to the group’s release.

Lawson’s Principal Move

The Bockorny Group announced that Pete Lawson, a former lobbyist for Ford Motor Co. and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, as well as former senior legal counsel for Rep. James P. Moran, D-Va., is a new principal with the firm.

“Pete is a major hire for our firm. He has an incredible resume — having worked on tough issues successfully with both the Congress and the Administration for some of the most respected organizations in Washington,” Dave Bockorny, the firm’s chairman and CEO, said in a release announcing Lawson’s move.

Lawson has also worked at the state level in public service, as a consumer protection specialist in the North Carolina attorney general’s office.

Money Talks

Jason R. Money, once a health legislative assistant for former Sen. George Allen, R-Va., and a former research analyst for the National Republican Senatorial Committee, has been promoted from senior director of federal affairs to vice president of federal government affairs for the Generic Pharmaceutical Association.

As the title suggests, Money — or J. Money, as he’s known to some colleagues — will be staying close to the action on Capitol Hill in his new role. “I’m gonna still be able to do the day-to-day lobbying that I do currently,” he told CQ Roll Call. Money has been with GPhA for six years.

An earlier version of this article did not note that Ryan McCormick worked under Sen. Bill Nelson when Nelson was chairman of the Senate Finance Fiscal Responsibility and Economic Growth Subcommittee.
