Today in Recess Pictures!
Because senators need to prove that they’re busy during recess “district work period,” here is a treasure trove of Twitter pictures they posted Tuesday. Photos courtesy of the senators; italicized snark care of yours truly.
This is Sen. Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., hugging NASCAR star Dale Earnhardt Jr. It is the most “America” of any picture posted to the Internet today, though 10 percent less “America” than it might have been had the principals been holding cans of Budweiser, a sponsor of Junior’s.
This is Sen. Mark Udall, D-Colo., climbing a rock. It appears Udall, the annual champion of that bipartisan seating plan at the president’s State of the Union, could not convince a Republican to tie himself to a rope and climb with him. The “grand bargain” is doomed.
More fun with photos after the jump! (like an Internet “jump,” people. Let’s not get all sad about the state of affairs in D.C. and imply too much from the placement of the last photo).
This is Sen. Mark S. Kirk, R-Ill., petting stingrays at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago. That is baller. Incidentally, did you know that the Tampa Bay Rays have been to a World Series within the past five years and the Chicago Cubs haven’t been there in about seven decades? Ouch.
This is Sen. Roy Blunt, R-Mo., some dudes and some T-shirts. Apparently those dudes are business leaders and they hate the Affordable Care Act.
This is Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., in a very blue tie with future lady leaders of his state/America. You can read more about the future lady leaders here.
This is Republican Lisa Murkowski of Alaska in Alaska, a state where the Department of Fish and Game is a thing.
This is a serious picture of Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., on the Turkey-Syria border talking to rebel Syrian forces. That arm on the bottom right-hand corner of the shot appears to be another person taking a picture of this tableau.
This is another serious picture, this time of Senate Foreign Relations Chairman Robert Menendez, D-N.J., in Israel visiting an Iron Dome missile defense site.
Today’s lesson: Senators are people, too, you guys! And some are clearly cooler than others.
