Art and Soul has retired the crab boils they’ve indulged in the past few summers in favor of weekly pig and oysters roasts debuting tonight at 5:30 p.m.
The patio-wide event can be experienced two ways: a $35, 3-course tasting menu or via a la carte snacking of hand carved, heritage pig parts ($5 a pop for your choice of ear, cheek, tongue, jowl, trotters or tail meat). Reservations are recommended, but a restaurant spokeswoman said walk-ins are welcome from 5:30-8:30 pm — or until they run out.
“If you like meat, this is the place to be,” a petite carnivore announced as she loaded up her plate with vinegar sauce-slathered ribs and crispy pork belly. We were bowled over by the buttery jowl (so naughty) and zesty sausage (on point).
Meanwhile, Union Market standout Rappahannock Oyster Co. will keep patrons in freshly shucked (deliciously briny) and fire-kissed (hot and smoky) Olde Salts.
The 3-course experience includes house-made snacks (think: pork rinds, pimento cheese and deviled eggs), a surf and turf platter of pig, oysters, pickles and beer mustard, with house-made creamsicles as closers.
Thirst quenchers include a boozy rum punch punctuated by cherry blossoms and ginger, refreshing Blanche de Bruxelles tallboys and fruity craft brews (21st Amendment’s Hell or High Watermelon, Sea Dog Brewing Company’s Wild Blueberry Wheat Ale).
