Senate Deja Vu: Budget Conference Request Edition
While you were heading out for your lunch break, Senate Budget Chairwoman Patty Murray, D-Wash., asked Tuesday for unanimous consent to move to a budget conference.
It was the 12th such request from Senate Democrats, who are seeking to set up a panel to merge their budget framework with the House GOP’s. Senate Republicans have blocked their request every time.
As we’ve previously reported, the push to move to committee has more to do with politics than it does the probability Congress will agree on a budget blueprint. The Obama administration on Monday tried to pressure House Republicans to agree to a larger spending framework by threatening to veto smaller appropriations bills. That move could perhaps shift the shape of this rhetorical battle — at least in its tone.
Meanwhile, Democrats, maybe the lucky 13th try at a conference will be the charm!
