House Democrats Post Strong May Fundraising

House Democrats raised $6.1 million in May, bringing their total fundraising this year to $34.1 million, according to a Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee aide.

The monthly haul is $700,000 more than the party raised in April and brings the DCCC’s cash on hand to $11 million.

The numbers come after President Barack Obama headlined a number of high-profile events for the DCCC in May, including two fundraisers in Chicago at the end of the month.

According to the aide, the DCCC also paid down $2 million of its debt, leaving the committee $2.1 million in the red.

The National Republican Congressional Committee had yet to release its fundraising numbers for May as of late Wednesday night. Monthly fundraising reports are due on Thursday.

In April, House Republicans raised $5.1 million and reported $8.7 million cash on hand at the end of the month. The NRCC also posted $6.3 million in debt.
