‘Moonrise Kingdom’: The Perfect Outdoor Summer Movie

Wes Anderson’s “Moonrise Kingdom,” the tale of two star-crossed kids who run away together, he from camp, she from home, as a hurricane bears down on their New England island, is the perfect summer outdoor movie.

Good thing for us the NoMa Summer Screen festival is screening it tonight as part of its Outlaw Heroes theme. Anderson’s whimsical tale of Sam (Jared Gilman) and Suzy (Kara Hayward) is an ode to summer camp, young love and longing.  And the adults (Edward Norton, Bruce Willis, Frances McDormand, Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton) who are trying to track Sam and Suzy down show that foolhardiness isn’t relegated to the young.

If you’ve ever been to camp, or if you’ve just sent your own kid to camp, or just plain like Anderson’s unique way of telling a story, this is a good one.

Food trucks expected to be on site are @DougtheFoodDude@OrangeCowDC@Takorean and @DCEmpanadas. Gates open at 7 p.m., and the flick starts at sundown.
