Navy Attacks Jargon

Stars and Stripes runs a fun and useful post on the overuse of military jargon: “Between all the jargon and acronyms—there are roughly 1,100 contained in Army Field Manual 1-02 alone— it’s easy to think English is a second language for some in the military.”

The piece notes that Navy Chief of Information Rear Adm. John Kirby wrote a memo this week and “urged his sailors to cut out the ‘jargon and gibberish’ when telling the Navy’s story.” Kirby provides “10 tips to help us improve, inspired by William Zinsser’s “On Writing Well.”
