Javier Sanchez, a former senior legislative aide for Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., who was arrested in July on charges of theft, was sentenced to 32 hours of community service Monday in D.C. Superior Court.

Sanchez, who was arrested by Capitol Police on July 11 as part of an investigation into a string of burglaries in congressional office buildings, entered into a “Deferred Prosecution Agreement that will end in four months,” according to the court’s case filings. Sanchez is due back in court on Dec. 19 for a hearing to determine if he has adhered to the conditions of his sentence.

Although Sanchez came to the attention of Capitol Police as part of their probe into who was stealing memorabilia and other items from the Rayburn Building offices of Rep. Mike McIntyre, D-N.C., and then-Rep. Elton Gallegly, R-Calif., he was arrested on “theft II” charges for stealing cash from Bachmann’s office, the misdemeanor he was sentenced for Monday. A “theft II” charge indicates that the amount taken was less than $1,000.

Sanchez appeared in D.C. Superior Court on July 12 and pleaded not guilty.
