A man who threatened to decapitate Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, D-Hawaii, was arrested in Tijuana, Mexico, on Wednesday night and subsequently taken into custody by the FBI.

The FBI and Capitol Police began investigating Aniruddha Sherbow after alleged threats on Aug. 1 and Aug. 3, including an email sent to the FBI and several media outlets threatening Gabbard’s life.

“I, Aniruddha Sherbow, with the Divine as my witness, do hereby solemnly vow to find Tulsi Gabbard, wheresoever she may be, and to sever her head from her body,” he wrote, according to several Hawaiian media sources.

Sherbow was arrested by Policia Estatal Preventiva, Baja California State Police Fugitive Unit, pursuant to a federal warrant issued in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, then turned over to FBI agents in San Diego, Calif.

Sherbow’s initial court appearance is scheduled for Thursday in San Diego, prior to his eventual return to D.C. to face the outstanding charge of transmission of threats in interstate commerce.

Gabbard obtained a three-year restraining order against Sherbow in March 2011, after he allegedly made a series of verbally abusive calls and emails. At the time, the Hawaii Democrat was serving on the Honolulu City Council.
