As the Washington region continued to reel from the grim news out of this morning’s Navy Yard shooting, Monday night’s scheduled game between the Washington Nationals and Atlanta Braves at Nationals Park was postponed until Tuesday at 1 p.m.

The Navy Yard is just a few blocks from the stadium.

“All of us here in the Nationals organization were deeply saddened to learn of the tragic events that occurred this morning only a few blocks from Nationals Park. Our thoughts and prayers remain with our friends at the Navy Yard and those impacted by today’s incident. In light of the circumstances, we have decided to postpone tonight’s game against the Braves. Additional information will be distributed in the coming hours. The safety of our fans is our utmost priority. As we have throughout the day, the Nationals security personnel will continue to work closely with all levels of law enforcement to reinforce the already high level of security in place at Nationals Park and to ensure that our visitors always have a safe experience,” a statement from the Nationals released at 3:12 p.m. read.

The game has playoff implications for the Nationals, who are chasing a wild-card spot, and the Braves, who are looking to clinch the National League East in the next few days. Some of the stadium parking lot areas are being used as staging areas for families looking to reunite with loved ones at the Navy Yard. In addition, reports from law enforcement indicated that some perpetrators involved in the shooting could still be on the loose.
