Sean Eldridge Launches House Bid in New York | #NY19

Venture capitalist Sean Eldridge officially rolled out his bid to unseat Rep. Chris Gibson, R-N.Y., in the 19th District on Monday.

The launch included a web video that sought to underscore three points about Eldridge: an association with the district, a humble background and the economic contributions of his company, Hudson River Ventures, to the region.

Eldridge is the husband of Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes, and according to a recent New York Times profile, they moved to the district in January. The National Republican Congressional Committee seized on the not-so-flattering portrayal of the wealthy couple.

Eldridge filed his statement of candidacy in February, and he reported raising about $437,000 in the second quarter and had $640,000 in the bank.

Eldridge never mentions Gibson in the video.

The raise is rated Tossup/Tilt Republican by Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call.
