The Senate is preparing to hold Monday afternoon votes on the most recently approved House stopgap spending bill, likely at some point between 2 p.m. — when the chamber opens — and 5 p.m.

Senate Democrats are holding an afternoon caucus meeting to plot their strategy, though from the sound of it, it does not seem like there is much left up in the air to discuss.

At a news conference earlier in the day, Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada already has informed members that he will take up the continuing resolution passed by the House over the weekend, vote to table its riders and dispatch it back to the House.

“We are having a caucus meeting. But I don’t want to confuse things. Senator Reid, as recently as five minutes ago, said that we’re going to handle this message from the House the same way they handled their first bill. And that is, we’re going to strip anything extraneous from it and send them back a clean CR,” Boxer said.

House Republican leaders met Monday morning and are expected to have a full, members-only session at 2 p.m.

With 12 hours to go before funding for the government runs out, it appears there is no solution in sight.
