Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., is on crutches.

The Empire State’s junior senator caused a small frenzy on Monday when several reporters spied her coming out of votes in injured form.

Gillibrand emerges from Senate votes on crutches. Tells press scrum, “it’s a real hell of a story, but I’m not going to tell it to you.”

“She hurt her calf exercising, should be off crutches within two weeks,” Gillibrand spokeswoman Bethany Lesser emailed CQ Roll Call.

Any Gillibrand injury could have cataclysmic implications for the Congressional Women’s Softball team. Gillibrand captains the squad, which faces off against a team of female Washington reporters each summer.

“I don’t care what happened, just tell me you’ll still be on those crutches for softball next year,” a source overheard CNN Capitol Hill correspondent Dana Bash taunting Gillibrand at the Capitol on Monday. Bash founded the rival softball team.

Gillibrand was the team’s fiercest slugger in its 2013 charity game against the women of the Washington press corps. She hit two doubles and was the top vote-getter in CQ Roll Call’s Fantasy Softball sweepstakes. Not long after, ESPN profiled Gillibrand’s athletic prowess.
