Alaska Republican Super PAC Launches Another Ad
A super PAC supporting Alaska Republican Dan Sullivan is launching a radio ad Friday taking aim at his two leading Senate race opponents.
The 60-second ad from Alaska’s Energy/America’s Values, backed by an $80,000 buy and running statewide, mentions Democratic Sen. Mark Begich and Sullivan’s top opponent in the Aug. 19 primary, Lt. Gov. Mead Treadwell.
The ad lands on the airwaves on the heels of an accompanying TV ad from the group. Both label Sullivan a true Alaskan — one of the leading attacks against the native Ohioan — and state he is the only Republican who can defeat Begich. www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSUqFIAf3w4
“I’m an Alaskan, and I’m really tired of Mark Begich and Mead Treadwell attacking Dan Sullivan,” says Athena Fulton, who also appears in the TV ad. “Treadwell supported Democrats in the past, but now he’s acting like Begich, and making ridiculous attacks he knows aren’t true.”
Sullivan obliterated his Republican competition in second-quarter fundraising and is the favorite headed into the final weeks of the primary. The former state Natural Resources commissioner raised nearly $1.2 million from April through June, while Treadwell said he brought in just $164,000 and attorney Joe Miller raised $130,000.
Begich, who is among the most vulnerable Democrats this cycle but running a strong campaign, raised nearly $1.3 million last quarter and had more than $2.1 million in cash on hand.
The race is rated Tilts Democrat by the Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call.
