A long-awaited summary of a Senate investigation into torture is coming next week.

Senate Intelligence Chairwoman Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., confirmed to CQ Roll Call that an agreement has been reached with the Obama administration on releasing the summary of her panel’s investigation into the use of torture by the CIA during the George W. Bush presidency.

“We’re in the process of printing it,” she said. The report is expected to be released next week.

Feinstein met late Wednesday in the Capitol with White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough, who spearheaded the negotiations between the chairwoman and the administration.

The news will be welcomed by transparency advocates inside and outside the Senate.

Sen. Ron Wyden said earlier Thursday it was critical the public version be released before sine die adjournment.

“What’s important in my view is the American people deserve to see this next week, before the Congress ends and this is not buried,” the Oregon Democrat said. “It should’ve come out a long time ago, and what’s important is that what comes out shows not just what happened, but why it happened.”
