White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest told reporters Wednesday the president will veto the defense authorization conference report because of the use of war savings to increase spending. “If the president got this bill, he’d veto it,” Earnest said of the National Defense Authorization Act. The NDAA has become law for more than 50 years in a row.

Earnest hasn’t been asked about the bill’s provisions on Guantanamo. Earnest has previously said President Barack Obama would veto the bill if it didn’t include provisions allowing the president to close the prison camp at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
