Kennedy and his wife, Lauren Birchfield Kennedy, have been married since December of 2012 and this is the couple’s first child.

“Lauren and I are so happy to announce that our daughter Eleanor (Ellie) arrived this morning! Her mom is doing great and her dad can’t stop smiling. We are so grateful for all of the love and support we’ve received and can’t wait to introduce her to everyone in the new year!” he wrote on Facebook.

The son of former Rep. Joseph P. Kennedy II, Kennedy and his twin brother, Matt, were born in 1980. The former Peace Corps volunteer was first elected to Congress in 2012. Lauren, a health policy lawyer, was a fellow student at Harvard Law School and the couple met in a class taught by now-Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass.
