Former Rep. Tom Latham, R-Iowa, announced Wednesday he has been diagnosed with lymphoma.

In March 2015, he became a partner in the lobbying firm Hecht, Spencer & Associates, which has now rebranded as Hecht Latham Spencer & Associates.

Latham is a former appropriator and is close friends with former Speaker John A. Boehner. Boehner invited him to the Pope’s speech to Congress in September, where he was spotted on the floor, though former lawmakers were not generally invited.

Rep. David Young, R-Iowa, now holds his seat and also is on the House Appropriations Committee.
