Sen. Christopher S. Murphy opened himself up to criticism by admitting he might not be the best judge of music.

On Tuesday morning, the Connecticut Democrat defended Rachel Platten’s “Fight Song,” which has been widely used by the Hillary Clinton campaign over the past year, saying that he liked it “a lot.”

I like Fight Song ALOT. @HillaryClinton should keep it. But I also listened to the first @NickLachey solo album on repeat. So there’s that.

But he said he also liked former 98 Degrees singer Nick Lachey’s first solo album.

“So there’s that,” he added.

Lachey’s debut CD “SoulO,” released in 2003, was a commercial failure both in terms of sales and chart performance. His 2006 follow-up effort, “What’s Left of Me,” was more successful. The gold-certified album reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200, spawning the hit title track. 

Some of Murphy’s supporters were willing to cut him some slack for his music tastes.
