"The secretive Pentagon agency that runs the nation's system of spy satellites has cut the time it takes to transmit intelligence data to analysts by a dramatic margin as part of a program to use the data to track weapons of mass destruction," USA Today reports. "Pentagon budget and contract records show the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) has developed a high-speed satellite modem to transmit data it collects to intelligence analysts. The experimental modem program was scheduled to become an official NRO program this year."
