Election Impact: Tax Policy in 2019

Republican and Democratic party leaders have already signaled that tax reform will be on the 2019 legislative agenda, including a hard look at corporate taxes. With Democrats winning control of the House, some key questions emerge: What will the Democrats do about the 2017 tax cut law? Will they look to repeal and replace some, if not all, of the Republicans’ big tax cut for corporations and individuals? What is feasible politically? What is feasible fiscally? Are there targeted fixes that can be made to improve the law in the eyes of critics? Or is it time to more fundamentally re-think the principles and goals driving US tax policy?

On November 27, 2018, CQ Roll Call in partnership with Oxfam America hosted a morning conversation on the state of play of tax reform, and the path forward to striking a bipartisan solution.
