President Donald Trump and the Republican Party will be spending part of late August in Charlotte in 2020, more than a month after their Democratic counterparts and potentially in the middle of hurricane season. The Republican National Convention is going to be held Aug. 24-27, 2020, in the North Carolina city, the Charlotte Observer reported.That means the Republicans will be gathering more than a month after the Democratic National Convention, which is scheduled for July 13-16, in 2020.The gap appears in part to be an effort to work around the Summer Olympics in Tokyo, which are scheduled from July 24-August 9.Republicans previously announced that Charlotte would be the host city.It will be the second time the Queen City has hosted a national political convention in less than a decade. Then-President Barack Obama was nominated for a second term in 2012 in Charlotte.
