Three Nevada Democratic House members want the statue of former Nevada Sen. Patrick McCarran's removed from the Capitol’s Statuary Hall.Reps. Dina Titus, Ruben Kihuen and Jacky Rosen sent a letter to Nevada's Republican Gov. Brian Sandoval criticizing McCarran's legacy of xenophobia and antisemitism, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.“It is time to retire the McCarran statue to Nevada and choose a better suited individual to represent us in National Statuary Hall,” the Nevada members wrote. The letter was also addressed to Nevada’s state Senate majority leader and the state House speaker-designate. McCarran, a Democrat, served in the Senate from 1933 until his death in 1954. McCarran's legacy was a fraught topic for former Sen. Harry Reid, who also wanted McCarran's name removed from Las Vegas' international airport. Some have advocated for replacing McCarran’s with Reid’s.
