Top of The World

Snow covered the ground in January 1973, but that didn’t keep Kit Bond from stepping out in a convertible for the ride to his inauguration as Missouri’s new governor. Donning a top hat and pinstriped slacks — we can only assume he’s got the tails to match — the 33-year-old became the state’s youngest governor. He lost his bid for re-election in 1976, but he recaptured the governor’s mansion four years later. The Republican was first elected to the Senate in 1986 and is now in his third term.
