Leonard Bernstein, he is not. But Capitol Police Chief Terrance Gainer did an admirable job conducting the Washington Redskins Marching Band on Thursday before the team’s big season opener.

The band performed during the department’s roll call as part of the NFL Kickoff Live 2003 festivities on the National Mall.

Gainer led the band in a rendition of “Hail to the Redskins.” Perhaps the team should invite him back. They beat the New York Jets 16-13.
