Senate Art Collection Focus of Book, Lecture

Senate Art Collection Focus of Book, Lecture As part of its National Library Week festivities, the Senate Library will present a lecture and book talk today on the recently published “United States Senate Catalogue of Fine Art.”

The book’s authors, Senate Curator Diane Skvaria and art historian William Koss, will be on hand to highlight some of the 160 works of art that are featured in the book and on display throughout the halls of the Senate. These works include 82 sculptures, 75 paintings, two enameled mosaics and one stained-glass window.

The catalogue marks the first time in its 200-plus-year history that the Senate has showcased its entire art collection in a publication. Each work is illustrated with a color photo and accompanied by essays that place the work in its historical context in the book.

Today’s hour-long presentation will begin at noon in Room 285 of the Russell Senate Office Building. The book can be purchased through the Senate gift shop, the government printing office and the Capitol Historical Society gift shop.
