King Does His Best to One-Up Meehan

Last week, this page featured a photo of Sen. Edward Kennedy (D) and now-Rep. Marty Meehan (D) on the stump in their home state of Massachusetts, seeking to boost their party’s prospect in the Bay State.

In response, Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.) submitted the above photo, taken in 1977 at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City, where future President Ronald Reagan was giving a speech on the Panama Canal. King, never one to shy away from a camera, made sure he got a snapshot with the Great Communicator.

In addition to passing along the photo, King’s press secretary, Kevin Fogarty, told Roll Call:

“The Congressman wants to strongly state that: Unlike Congressman Meehan, Mr. King possesses a lethal combination that has yet to make it to the 5th Congressional district of Massachusetts: 1. Endorsing successful presidential candidates (Reagan 1980 — not Kennedy!); 2. Fashion sense.”
