Moment of Silence Planned

The Capitol Police Department will honor the late Detective John Gibson and Officer Jacob Chestnut with a moment of silence at 3:40 p.m. Saturday.

Both officers were killed in the line of duty July 24, 1998, while on duty in the Capitol, allegedly by Russell Weston Jr.

Capitol Police officers will distribute condolence cards to staff and visitors Friday asking them to take part in Saturday’s moment of silence.

There will be no formal ceremony, but a Capitol Police spokesman said wreaths will be placed near the Capitol’s Memorial Door on Friday.
