WRAP Offers Free Taxi Service for St. Pat’s

To help combat drunken driving on St. Patrick’s Day, the Washington Regional Alcohol Program is offering a free taxi service from 4 p.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday. People “celebrating with alcohol” can call 800-200-TAXI and receive a free (up to a $50 fare) cab ride home.

“People might be surprised to know that more Americans are killed by drunk drivers during St. Patrick’s Day than on New Year’s Eve,” WRAP President Kurt Gregory Erickson said in a statement.

The SoberRide service is offered throughout the District of Columbia, in Maryland’s Prince George’s and Montgomery counties, and in Virginia’s Arlington, Fairfax, Prince William and (eastern) Loudoun counties. It is sponsored by businesses including Anheuser-Busch and Red Top Cab and by 16 local Irish bars and restaurants, including Capitol Hill’s Dubliner and Kelly’s Irish Times.
