Longtime Senate staffer Isaac Bassett turns back the hands of the Senate clock at the close of a session of Congress in this photo from 1892. Bassett was appointed a page in 1831 when he was just 12 and eventually worked his way up to Assistant Doorkeeper. He continued to serve the Senate until his death in 1895.
