SoberRide Program in Effect for Halloween

The Washington Regional Alcohol Program will be offering free cab rides on Halloween in an effort to prevent drunk driving accidents as a part of its SoberRide effort.

Free taxis will be available for up to a $50 value from 8 p.m. Wednesday until 4 a.m. Thursday for patrons 21 and older who are celebrating the holiday with alcohol. Area residents can call 1-800-200-TAXI and AT&T Wireless users can simply text “#-TAXI” to call for a ride.

“The scary fact is that more than a third of all U.S. traffic deaths occurring during Halloween are caused by drunk drivers,” WRAP President Kurt Gregory Erickson said.

Cabs will be available to travel throughout the District and into Montgomery, Prince George’s, Arlington, Fairfax, Loudon and Prince William counties as well as the city of Alexandria.

This offer is sponsored by Anheuser-Busch, AT&T, Enterprise Rent-A-Car Foundation, Red Top Cab of Arlington and the Washington Area New Automobile Dealers Association.
