California: Speier Officially Opens Her Bid for Lantos’ Seat

Former State Sen. Jackie Speier (D) is running to replace Rep. Tom Lantos (D) in the solidly Democratic 12th district.

Rumored to be interested in running for months — even if Lantos had run for re-election — Speier made it official over the weekend, announcing in a park named after the late Rep. Leo Ryan (D), her former boss who once held the seat.

Club for Growth Looks to Oust Frosh McNerney

The Club for Growth has endorsed former state Assemblyman Dean Andal, who is running unopposed in the 11th district GOP primary and is on track to challenge freshman Rep. Jerry McNerney (D) in November.

McNerney upset then-House Resources Chairman Richard Pombo (R) in the previous cycle in the Republican-leaning 11th district, and the Democrat is a top GOP target this time around.
