West Virginia: Pelosi Headlines D.C. Fundraiser for Barth

While her campaign was still counting the money she brought in at a Washington, D.C., fundraiser earlier this week, the spokesman for Democrat Anne Barth said the 2nd district candidate has raised more than $100,000 in her first four weeks since launching her campaign to knock off Rep. Shelley Moore Capito (R).

Monday night’s fundraiser was hosted by West Virginia Democratic Reps. Alan Mollohan and Nick Rahall and featured Speaker Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) among other top party leaders.

Barth is a former top aide to beloved Sen. Robert Byrd (D), and the party’s excitement over her recent candidacy was emphasized by the announcement this week that she was being included in the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s “Red to Blue” fundraising and infrastructure program.

Spokesman Mark Ferrell said Wednesday that Barth already has several more fundraisers planned for this month in Charleston, Morgantown, Sutton and Shepherdstown.

They will be needed. Capito reported close to $650,000 cash on hand in her year-end filing with the Federal Election Commission.
