Louisiana: Cazayoux Tops Another Poll in House Special

With almost three weeks to go before his special election in the 6th district, state Rep. Don Cazayoux (D) led former state Rep. Woody Jenkins (R) 49 percent to 42 percent, according to an internal poll released by Cazayoux’s campaign on Monday.

The poll of 500 likely special election voters was conducted by Anzalone Liszt Research April 8-10 and comes one week after Cazayoux released a March survey that showed him beating Jenkins 49 percent to 44 percent.

Portions of a GOP poll conducted March 17-18 and obtained by Roll Call showed Jenkins down 3 points in a head-to-head matchup with Cazayoux. Republicans reportedly were back in the district earlier this month with a poll, but those numbers have not been released.

The latest survey from Cazayoux, which had a 4.4-point margin of error, showed that the Democrat’s favorable rating has jumped 15 percent since March. Cazayoux had 55 percent to 13 percent favorable/unfavorable ratings while Jenkins had 56 percent to 34 percent favorable/unfavorable ratings.

The special election to replace former Rep. Richard Baker (R) is on May 3.

One-Day Poll Shows Senate Race Knotted Up

A new one-day Rasmussen Reports poll studying Sen. Mary Landrieu’s (D) re-election chances shows the Senator 1 point ahead of state Treasurer John Kennedy (R) in a race that presents the GOP with its best, and perhaps only, pickup opportunity of the cycle in the Senate.

The automated Rasmussen survey of 500 likely voters conducted on April 9 showed Landrieu leading Kennedy 47 percent to 46 percent. But with a 4.5-point margin of error, the race is a statistical tossup.

The survey also found that Landrieu had an 8-point lead among female voters while Kennedy led by 10 points among men. Kennedy led by 7 points among voters not affiliated with either party.
