Florida: Young Files Papers for a Run for a 20th Term

Rep. Bill Young (R), who turns 78 this December, recently filed papers in Florida virtually guaranteeing his name on the November ballot. Young’s filing is some rare good news for House GOP leadership, which has watched its ranks gutted in recent months.

According to the Florida secretary of state, Young filed the necessary signatures with election officials on March 31. Young so far has avoided any credible primary or general election challengers, but candidates have until June 20 to file.

Although Young’s St. Petersburg-area district is trending Democratic, he is likely to remain the heavy favorite as long as he runs.
