Virginia: Goode Challenger Wants to Do Well — and Good

Attorney Tom Perriello (D) announced an interesting new campaign initiative Monday in which his campaign will tithe 10 percent of all its volunteer hours to community service projects around the district.

Perriello, who is known for his work with nonprofit groups, is challenging Rep. Virgil Goode (R) in the south-central Virginia 5th district.

According to a release Monday, the Perriello campaign has logged more than 1,700 volunteer hours so far this cycle, and over the weekend, volunteers kicked off the new initiative by donating 42 volunteer hours at three different community service projects around the district.

“I was raised to believe that a strong faith is a lived faith that must be made clear by our deeds,” Perriello said in a statement Monday. “I want my campaign for Congress to reflect those same values. That is why we are asking our campaign team to commit 10% of their volunteer hours to local charities to reflect the value of service to community and to country.”
