New Mexico: Anti-Abortion Group Raps Wilson in TV Ad

The Susan B. Anthony List, an anti-abortion-rights advocacy group, has launched a Christian radio ad campaign accusing Rep. Heather Wilson (R) of supporting abortion rights.

Wilson, a moderate Republican who opposes abortion rights, is locked in a bitter Senate primary with conservative Rep. Steve Pearce (R). The Susan B. Anthony List’s $30,000 ad buy is running on nine AM and FM Albuquerque-based Christian radio stations whose reach extends statewide.

“There are 4,000 abortions every day in the United States,” the ad’s voice-over opens. “That’s 4,000 children who weren’t given a chance for life. This is a tragedy. But not to Rep. Heather Wilson. She’s part of the problem.”

The winner of the June 3 GOP Senate primary will face Rep. Tom Udall (D) in November. Sen. Pete Domenici (R) is retiring.

The Susan B. Anthony’s two-pronged mission involves electing anti-abortion-rights women and defeating women that it deems to be too supportive of abortion.
