Alaska: Inouye Campaigns in El Dorado for Stevens

Embattled Sen. Ted Stevens (R) is getting by with a little help from an old friend. Sen. Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii) campaigned with the senior Republican in Alaska for three days last week, according to Stevens’ campaign.

Stevens and Inouye are close friends, despite being from opposing political parties. Inouye hosted a fundraiser for Stevens in Washington, D.C., in May.

“I’m here for one reason: I want my partner to go back to Washington after this election in November,” Inouye said in Anchorage, according to Stevens’ campaign.

Stevens was indicted two weeks ago on seven counts and is awaiting his Sept. 24 trial. Already getting a serious challenge from Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich (D), Stevens also faces six primary challengers on Aug. 2.
