Sheehan Qualifies to Run Against Pelosi

Anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan has qualified for the ballot as an Independent in California’s 8th district, joining three other challengers in what will almost assuredly be a losing battle against Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

Pelosi has held the solidly Democratic San Francisco district since June 1987, when she won a special election. Pelosi has not won re-election with less than 82 percent of the vote since 1990, when she garnered 77 percent.

Sheehan gained notoriety by camping outside of President Bush’s ranch in Crawford, Texas, to protest the Iraq War. Sheehan’s son died while serving in Iraq.

Sheehan has yet to file a report with the Federal Election Commission.

Pelosi’s personal campaign account had $455,139 on hand as of June 30.
