Fossella Case Delayed

Rep. Vito Fossella (R-N.Y.) will not appear before an Alexandria judge on a charge of driving while intoxicated until mid-October. The case has been delayed yet again. Fossella’s case in Alexandria General District Court has been delayed several times since his May 1 arrest. He had been scheduled to appear in court on Thursday. Court personnel said a related minor traffic charge has also been delayed. The incident also prompted revelations that Fossella, who will retire at the end of the 110th Congress, fathered a daughter with former Air Force officer Laura Fay, with whom he had an extramarital affair. The House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct announced earlier this year it would investigate the incident, but immediately suspended its probe pending the outcome of the court proceedings on the drunken driving charges. The committee did not indicate whether its investigation could also encompass allegations that Fossella misused government funds to go on Congressional trips with his mistress.
