It was 1986, and President Ronald Reagan was meeting individually with Republican candidates to support their campaigns. Here, Reagan, halfway through his second term, is meeting with Republican then-Rep. John McCain (Ariz.) at the White House. McCain went on to win a Senate seat that year.
