Rules to Punt on Bailout Tonight

Don’t expect the House Rules Committee to meet late Saturday night to take up a still-developing economic rescue package, aides said. The Rules Committee did meet this evening to pass a same-day consideration resolution, which allows lawmakers to bring the bailout bill to the committee and then to the floor that day whenever it is done. But a source close to negotiations on the package said: “It won’t happen tonight. We will see where they are in the morning.”
