Bush Urges Passage

President Bush appeared at the White House this morning to urge passage of the economic rescue package.

“Now that this legislation has been agreed to by leaders of both parties, it must be passed by both houses of Congress,” Bush said.

The president acknowledged that it will be a “difficult vote” for many lawmakers, but he said it is imperative for Members to approve the legislation and signal to markets that help is on the way.

“Every Member of Congress and every American should keep in mind a vote for this bill is a vote to prevent economic damage to you and your community,” Bush said.
