House Approves Bailout Bill

The House passed the $700 billion economic bailout bill Friday, sending it to President Bush for his signature. The 263-171 vote reversed the stunning 12-vote defeat of the bill on Monday. The Senate retooled the bill and then passed it Wednesday. An aggressive lobbying effort in the past few days persuaded enough House Members to switch their votes.
