Iowa: Kerry Was Set to Stump for Latham Challenger

Dallas County Democratic Party Chairwoman Becky Greenwald, looking to upset Rep. Tom Latham (R) in the 4th district, was set to campaign Wednesday with Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.).

Greenwald and Kerry were scheduled to appear together in Marshalltown, Ames and Waukee. Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.) is expected to win Iowa handily in November in the race for the White House, and Greenwald is hoping to ride those coattails to victory over an incumbent who remains favored to win re-election.

Kerry, the Democratic presidential nominee in 2004, lost the 4th district by 3 points to President Bush. Democratic strategists believe that Greenwald can run a competitive race, though they privately wish she had raised more money earlier.
