Texas: VFW Backs Lampson As Olson Goes on TV

Rep. Nick Lampson (D), facing a tough challenge for re-election in the conservative-leaning 22nd district from former Senate aide Pete Olson (R), was endorsed over the weekend by the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

“President Reagan is the last man I voted for. I have voted in every election since because it is my civic duty but I usually vote against someone, choosing the lesser of two evils. This year I am looking forward to voting for Nick Lampson,” VFW-PAC Commander Allen DeFord said in a statement provided by the Lampson campaign.

Meanwhile, Olson last week hit the broadcast airwaves with his first television ad. In the 30-second spot, Olson assails Lampson for “being the biggest spender in Congress”

“We don’t need phony gimmicks to stop spending,” Olson says in the ad. “We need Congressmen with conservative principles.”
